Magazine Ads

Task:
To create ads to be featured in a beer and brewing magazine.
Program(s):
InDesign and Photoshop
Details:
For this task I needed to explore magazine ads and what makes them effective. For the Hoppy Dog ad, I wanted to demonstrate what the brand was about. For the Yuengling ad, I wanted to creatively represent the taste of the product in a 2-dimensional space. For both ads, I needed to ensure that the product didn’t get lost in a sea of information.
For the Hoppy Dog ad, I took a more humorous approach based on the brand’s mascot of a golden retriever. This showcases the more relaxed vibe of the brand. Since the ad is representing a (fictional) small company I wanted to call back to the close and friendly feeling of a childhood dog. I also chose to call back to the grunge roots of the label design with the spiked collar around the bottle.
For the Yuengling ad, I focused specifically on the main unique quality of the product, the flavor profile of Hershey’s chocolate. I showcased this by photo editing in Photoshop to have a chocolate bar turning into a rich and dark beer. I wanted to keep this tone throughout by choosing and equally rich and dark background. A challenge that arose with this product was representing both brands in the partnership equally. I did this by having their most recognizable products (a chocolate bar and a beer bottle) take up equal space.
